Colloïde is an experimental project involving a series of pop-up exhibits across Europe featuring works by a dozen or more artists. It is being launched by a core group of artists and each episode is a different group show featuring works that have inspired them and whom they want to present together publicly. The mix is intentionally intergenerational (even posthumous) and international, featuring established artists who have shown in major museums and galleries to young, emerging artists, some from far away and some local to the chosen exhibit space, wherever that may be. The exhibits consist of one or two work from each artist, through which the curators intend to highlight the different creative approaches that can be found with the same materials, the same subjects, or simply the wildly different directions that emerge from different creative inspirations. By juxtaposing the works of many different artists’ work in these shows, they also become somehow more personal- as though you are seeing what one person might have chosen to hang in their house- as though you’re looking at someone else’s private collection.
In a sense, the project is also a salon. With the number of artists represented, this is imagined as a sharing and networking event for the those displaying work and the audience, collectors, press, and anyone who stops by. The name Colloïde is nod to the heterogeneity present in the broader landscape of artistic creation, and the unique particles that are the individual creators therein.
Colloïde #1 is taking place in Forcalquier at La Maison des Chapitres, the former house of David Galloway, a close friend of Hendrik Silbermann’s, one of the core group of curators. The eclectic mix of art and objects in the house, and it’s history as a crossroads and meeting point for artists and thinkers and people passionate about creation, is part of the inspiration for the project, as well as the desire to maintain the energy of creation and sharing that the house has always represented for him. The artists featured will be Susan Stockwell, Toni Silberfisch, Andrea Weihrauch, Matthias Kanter, Nils Jaeger, Michael Roberts, Hendrik Silbermann, Pius Fox, Leon Michel, Lisa Liepelt, Rosa Schwarz, Emilie Boulanger, José Madrigal Despaigne, and Ilya Green.
Colloïde #2 will be in Berlin in 2027.
